Course Description
Distance learning course of 3 modules and 6 units
This course has FREE Online Videos Associated with it.
The aim of this course is to summarise some of the basic guidelines for untrained people who may become involved in negotiation or mediation in group conflicts whether social, economic or industrial.
Training in negotiation and mediation is aimed at helping change to come about with as little violence or industrial unrest and disorganisation as possible.
Negotiation does not guarantee peaceful or just solutions but, compared with violence, or industrial disorganisation, it offers more constructive opportunities for accommodating conflict. Violence often achieves short-term immediate success, but its destructive impact on society leaves a legacy of hatred and revenge which can inhibit or totally prevent long-term social or industrial harmony.
This course does not suggest that negotiation is the only answer in a conflict situation. It merely provides a survey of the processes of negotiation and mediation for those who would like to learn about them. An understanding of negotiation skills and techniques will be empowering in all sensitive situations.
All parties seeking to accommodate conflict constructively must bear in mind the principle that social or industrial conflicts should not be attributed to the faults of any person or group; they are the consequences of historical processes and social forces over which individuals have little influence.
Tutor Support
With this course you will have unlimited access to your own personal tutor who specialises in their field of study.
