Distance learning course of 10 lessons
The principles of naturopathy state that the body has the ability to heal itself by its vital force; disease is the resistance by this force to abnormal conditions in the body, disturbing the normal functioning of its organs and tissues and, naturopathy is a holistic treatment which approaches the client as a whole and not merely the symptoms of the complaint. This course offers the student a comprehensive introduction to the subjects presented in the syllabus. The course is designed for continuous assessment and tutor feedback will help to keep you motivated throughout the course.

Introduction and Philosophy
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:Analyse Naturopathy, its philosophy, principles and methods of treatment. Summarise a broader application of natural living and recognition of naturopathy.
Basic Anatomy and Physiology
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Examine the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Discuss your perception of an organ. Identify 6 systems of the body. Summarise how many kidneys are found in the body.
The Mind-Body Connection
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Evaluate the nervous system in detail and explain how it functions. Examine the functions of the nervous system. Summarise the following: neurons, dendrites, and axons. Discuss the following systems: autonomic nervous system, sympathetic nervous system, and parasympathetic nervous system.
The Breathing Apparatus
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Analyse the mechanism which facilitates the breathing process and consider some of the disorders that can arise. Examine the lungs, bronchial tree and expansion process and describe their functions. Describe the signs and symptoms of chronic bronchitis. Discuss bronchiectasis showing how it is identified.
The Digestive System
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Introduce and discuss the Digestive System showing organs involved in the digestive process. Discuss fasting and the benefits it offers. Identify which parts of the body make up the digestive system. Evaluate the procedure involved in breaking a fast.
Dietary Therapy
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Examine Dietary Therapy and the rules regarding diet that must be observed. Explain the necessity of supplementing additional vitamins and minerals in a natural diet. Discuss the following statements: why flesh eating is unnecessary and can be dangerous to health; also the effects that cholesterol have on the human system.
Hydrotherapy
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Discuss the different aspects of Hydrotherapy giving the benefits of this procedure. Summarise your understanding of dehydration and rehydration. List the unwanted properties in tap-water. Define the purpose of the following baths and methods of procedure: sea salt and baking powder; apple and cider vinegar; lemon; and epsom salts.
Aromatherapy and Holistic Massage
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Evaluate aromatherapy, methods of treatment and its connection to holistic massage. Examine the origins of essential oils. List and define principle methods of treatment by aromatherapy. Summarise your interpretation of holistic massage.
Homeopathy and Herbalism
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Introduce and explain the difference between homeopathy and herbalism. Examine why homoeopathic treatments are so beneficial to acute dis-ease states. Describe the procedures and choice of herbs you would use for the following: acne, bronchitis, indigestion, psoriasis.
Research into Naturopathy
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to: Describe the Kallawayas, their influence on today�s herbalists and identify medicinal plants commonly used by them. Summarise therapeutic properties and indications for Albahaca, Cola de Caballo, Capaibo, Guayabo, and Una de Gato.
