Course Description

Course Outline
Language objectives for Upper-Intermediate level based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
After completion of the course you will be able to:
· Comprehend the basic points of a more complex discussion. This includes the lexicon of the student’s field of study or work.
· Sustain a dialogue with a native speaker without strain and with a reasonable degree of fluency.
· Write texts of a detailed nature on a vast range of topics as well as formulate and defend a viewpoint whilst weighing the pros and cons of an issue
After completion of the course you will have developed the following skills:
Listening – You are capable of following more complicated speech as long as the subject is familiar to you. TV news at this level is accessible, as well as films in the standard spoken language.
Reading – You are able to comprehend current writing styles. Reports and news articles which express opinions or deal with modern problems are well within your range of ability.
Speaking Interaction – You can engage in spontaneous exchanges with native speakers with a reasonable degree of fluency. You are also able to express your point of view on a given topic.
Speaking Production – You are able to provide more detailed accounts of events and can talk about subjects that are of interest to you. You can also consider the options that a problem or situation presents.
Writing – Reports and essays that express your point of view are well within your range of ability at this level. You can provide a detailed text on topics that interest you. In letters you can emphasize the personal aspect of an experience or event.
